Early Childhood Specialist

The Center for the Young Child (CYC) at OCALI is dedicated to giving children with disabilities the best possible start in life because early experiences impact lifelong outcomes.

We do this by informing policy, creating and sharing resources, and providing training and technical assistance so that young children with disabilities have the foundation they need for a lifetime of learning, growth, and opportunities in their community.

We are looking to hire a consultant and training facilitator with expertise in working with children with disabilities ages 0-5.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Thorough working knowledge of child care, Early Intervention, preschool special education and other early care and education service options for young children with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and successful experience developing materials and training related to early care and education.
  • Strong understanding of, and experience with early childhood transitions, including transitions from IDEA Part C to IDEA Part B and preschool to kindergarten.
  • Flexible schedule to travel within the state for meetings, consultations, and professional development when needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with internal teams, external partners, and other professionals and family members.
  • Ability to host virtual meetings and conduct virtual trainings.
  • Innovative thinker with strong initiative, drive to complete projects, and ability to leverage resources while maintaining focus on the organization’s mission.
  • Proven experience and ability to coordinate projects, adhere to timelines, meet deadlines, and complete activities as planned.
  • Effective team member who can work collaboratively, internally and externally, with a variety of people and organizations, both public and private, to address the needs of early childhood professionals, families and young children.
  • Experience and proficiency with technology applications (including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Cloud, Boardmaker, Canva or other design platforms) and online environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with early childhood services, child care and other health and education services and organizations for young children and families.
  • Experience writing and/or implementing Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs) and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Extensive knowledge of evidence-based practices for young children with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Support OCALI’s work related to improving early care and education, including early childhood transitions, and the use of evidence-based practices for young children with disabilities.
  • Coordinate contract and grant activities within defined timelines, including but not limited to, development and implementation of activities and training, as well as communicating and reporting to funding agencies.
  • Provide support to internal team members through the development of resources, including online and face-to-face training materials.
  • Demonstrate accuracy, responsiveness, and excellent communication skills when fielding OCALI phone calls, participating in meetings and trainings, and responding to emails and other written correspondence from families and service providers.
  • Provide information, technical assistance, and support to families of, and professionals serving, young children with disabilities.
  • Support dissemination activities through assistance with management of database and lending library materials and resources.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Center for the Young Child Program Director.

Salary: Range $60,000-$70,000, commensurate with experience and in accordance with specified salary schedule
