Accessibility

OCALI's Commitment

As an organization that believes all people with disabilities deserve to have the opportunity to live their best lives for their whole lives, OCALI is committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible environment for all. Our staff and the people we serve represent a wide range of disabilities, ages, races, backgrounds, and experiences, and we value and celebrate the uniqueness and contributions that each person brings to our organization. Together, we strive to lead by example and demonstrate respect and care for one another. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. If you have a disability or special need that requires accommodation, please let us know.

Website Accessibility

We strive to make all websites hosted by OCALI accessible for all users, including people with disabilities. We test and modify each website for optimal usability.

Content on OCALI-hosted websites are presented in many formats. These formats are generally accessible to users using screen reading software. Some files may be posted as Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Adobe provides their Acrobat Reader software as a free download.

We strive to validate all website pages using the following online validation services: W3C Markup Validation Service (Valid XHTML 1.0 Strict), WAVE Accessibility Validator (No Accessibility Errors).

If you have questions about our web accessibility statement or find any pages on OCALI-hosted websites that do not validate or that pose any other accessibility barriers, please contact us at support@ocali.org.

Audio Description

Audio Description (AD) for videos is a recorded narrative or audio track that is added when a video contains visual information that is not naturally included in the audio or explicitly stated by the host or narrator. Audio descriptions increase accessibility of visual or video-based content for people who are blind, visually impaired, or otherwise benefit from additional audio supports. Specific and descriptive language is used to depict text, graphics, places, objects, or actions occurring on screen. OCALI utilizes two types of audio description. Standard audio description is used when visual information can be described during natural pauses in the video. When more time is needed to adequately describe visual information, extended audio description is used, which extends the length of the original video when enabled.

What is Recite Me?

Recite Me is innovative cloud-based software that lets visitors to our website view and use it in the way that works best for them.

We have added the Recite Me web accessibility and language toolbar to our website to increase accessibility options and be inclusive for as many people as possible. We do recognize that there may be access needs that are not met through Recite Me. Please contact us to share any accessibility concerns or ideas to help our effort to continuously improve our websites.

How do I Use the Recite Me Toolbar?

You can open the Recite Me language and accessibility toolbar by clicking on the "Start Accessibility and Language Toolbar" link, which appears in the main navigation and the bottom of every page.

After you click "Start Accessibility and Language Toolbar", the Recite Me toolbar opens and displays a range of different options for customizing how the website looks and how you can access the content.
