Grab a cup of coffee and join Kelly Mahler OTD, OTR/L and Kim Clairy OTR/L as they provide information on interoception and offer simple strategies/grab and go ideas to support individuals of all ages across various environments.

Who Should Attend?

Family members, general education teachers, special education teachers, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, school administrators, school psychologists, direct support professionals, providers, etc. It is highly recommended that participants attend the Interoception: Feeling the Feels online training series simultaneously to gain foundational information about Interoception.

Key Concepts & Take Aways

Participants will:

  • gain further understanding of interoception and how it can improve our ability to understand dysregulation in autistic individuals
  • learn strategies to support those who experience chronic dysregulation, often referred to as challenging behaviors, by promoting self-regulation through inspiring curiosity of inner sense
  • learn ways to support interoception within the school setting
  • learn how to incorporate interoception strategies with non-speaking individuals
  • learn how interoception and trauma are closely related

Presenters:

Kelly Mahler
Kelly Mahler OTD, OTR/L, earned a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Misericordia University, Dallas, PA. She has been an occupational therapist for 20 years, serving school-aged children and adults. Kelly is winner of multiple awards, including the 2020 American Occupational Therapy Association Emerging and Innovative Practice Award & a Mom's Choice Gold Medal. She is an adjunct faculty member at Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, PA as well as at Misericordia University, Dallas, PA. Kelly is a co-principal investigator in several research projects pertaining to topics such as interoception, self-regulation, trauma & autism.

Kim Clairy
Kim is an autistic occupational therapist, speaker, consultant, author, and self-advocate who has provided over 200 trainings on autism and neurodiversity world-wide. Kim broke through barriers as she defied a healthcare system that said, "your autism is severe; you need to live in a nursing home.' Her difficult experiences forged a passion for educating others on autism. Using personal experiences and professional expertise, Kim educates on many facets of autism across the lifespan including eating disorders, trauma, mental health, relationships, self-awareness, sensory processing, classroom inclusion, community integration, problem-solving through challenging behaviors, and much more! When not speaking about autism Kim can be found climbing trees, looking for rocks, or making a mess with paint!
