The Core Competencies in Health Care Education for People with Disabilities serve as a foundation for this 10-part series. Each session provides attendees the opportunity to hear from and engage with leaders from a variety of disciplines. The one-hour roundtables include lived experience, didactic presentation, and opportunity for interaction.

Why?

  • Only 50% of children who should receive an initial or periodic development screening do.
  • Rates of emergency department utilization are 2-3 times higher for children with special health care needs.
  • Adults with disabilities are more likely to be inactive, have high blood pressure, smoke, and be obese than their non-disabled peers.
  • Nearly 75% of all Medicaid expenditures are related to disability.
