Early Childhood Transition Specialist

The Center for the Young Child (CYC) at OCALI is dedicated to giving children with disabilities the best possible start in life because early experiences impact lifelong outcomes.

We do this by informing policy, creating, and sharing resources, and providing training and technical assistance so that young children with disabilities have the foundation they need for a lifetime of learning, growth, and opportunities in their community.

We are looking to hire a subject matter expert and training facilitator with experience working with children with disabilities ages 0-5 transitioning across systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of, and experience with early childhood transitions, including transitions from IDEA Part C to IDEA Part B and preschool to kindergarten.
  • Flexible schedule to travel within the state for meetings, consultations, and professional development when needed.
  • Able to deliver in-person and online professional development, facilitate meetings, develop web, and print resources, and a skilled provider of training and technical assistance for early care and education professionals and administrators with a strong focus on early childhood transitions.
  • Thorough working knowledge of child care, Early Intervention, preschool special education and other early care and education service options for young children with disabilities and ability to develop resources for professionals.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, successful experience developing training, and skilled at hosting virtual meetings with program administrators in early care and education.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with internal teams, external partners, and other professionals and family members.
  • Innovative thinker with strong initiative, drive to complete projects, and ability to leverage resources while maintaining focus on the organization’s mission.
  • Proven experience and ability to coordinate projects, adhere to timelines, meet deadlines, and complete activities as planned.
  • Effective team member who can work collaboratively, internally, and externally, with a variety of people and organizations, both public and private, to address the needs of early childhood professionals, families, and young children.
  • Experience and proficiency with technology applications and accessibility tools (including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, etc.) and online platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience writing and/or implementing Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs) and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and a deep understanding of the rules, policies, and systems that guide the process and development.
  • Direct experience with a variety of early childhood systems; including program administrators, service providers, child care providers and other health and education services and organizations for young children and families.
  • Highly skilled at facilitating collaborative discussions and process coordination in early childhood cross-system work and ability to collect, manage, and maintain data.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Support OCALI’s work related to improving early care and education, including early childhood transitions, and through the delivery of online and in-person training events.
  • Coordinate contract and grant activities within defined timelines, including but not limited to, development and implementation of activities and training, as well as communicating and reporting to funding agencies.
  • Provide support to internal team members through the development of resources, including online and face-to-face training materials and technical support related to early childhood transition.
  • Demonstrate accuracy, responsiveness, and excellent communication skills when fielding OCALI phone calls, taking part in meetings and trainings, and responding to emails and other written correspondence from families and service providers.
  • Provide information, technical assistance, and support to families of, and professionals serving, young children with disabilities involved in the transition process.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Center for the Young Child Program Director.
