Tiered Activity Plan
Earth's Layers and History

Dig deep! Let’s diagram the layers within the Earth’s surface. Rocks, gems, sand, silt clay and minerals are found within these layers. Students can build a model of the soil horizons and simulate plate movements as a physical and visual map of what’s right under our feet.

Did you know we can also map history within the layers? In this series of lessons students work to create a timeline using artifacts and fossils that have been found within the layers.
