How to Prepare

Do not hesitate to offer other information that you have available that might provide valuable information about your child. This may include:

  • School records
  • Previous evaluation reports
  • Videos of the child at previous developmental stages or during events in various settings

Do not hesitate to ask anything that you feel that you need to know. Ask questions to clarify any aspect of the process that feels confusing or unexpected or just to get the details that you need to be prepared.

A responsive professional recognizes that while they have been through this process many times, this is probably a brand-new experience for you. They will welcome your questions and take the time to answer them.

  • Who will do the assessment?
  • What if my child feels anxious or has difficulty doing the assessment tasks?
  • How long will the assessment take?
  • What if my child behaves differently during the assessment than he or she usually does?
  • Who will be present during the assessment?
  • Who will receive the results of the assessment?
  • How long will it take for me to find out the results of the assessment?
