The setting may vary on the age of the individual involved. For some school-aged children assessments often take place in an office or testing room in a school building. For other children and for adults, autism evaluations may occur at multi-practitioner or sole practitioner specialty centers that offer autism assessment.
For young children the assessments are often play-based and may occur in a playroom, sensory room, or activity areas. For older children, adolescents, and adults the evaluation is usually conducted in an office or meeting area, often seated at a table with the examiner or examiners. Some elements of the assessment are sent online and may be completed from home.
